Baring Truth: The BV Mystery 😳 (Oct 19)

Bare Truths: The BV Mystery 😳

Reading Time: 3 Minutes

Sex bares it all.

Great sex does. If it doesn’t uncover a part of you, it’s performative.

Or worse, a chore.

CONNECTION & INTIMACY

Sexual pleasure isn't about orgasm, ejaculation or even “this goes here and done”.

It's a symphony of communication, trust, relaxation, playful adventure, and intimate connections – a journey beyond expectations.

Revealing your sensuality ranks high in baring your true self, yes.

Yet the lack of entertaining, and captivating sex education can make a person uneasy in their life long ride of peaks and valleys.

Understanding your mind, body, and spirit will help to ease these travels.

You want to embrace your sexual feelings. Whatever they may be, barring their consensual.

Dismiss any juvenile judgments, unless it's playful & risqué 😏

PASSION & PLEASURE

“Graze on my lips, and if those hills be dry, Stray lower, where the pleasant fountains lie.” - Shakespeare, Venus and Adonis

We speak often about the brain being the biggest sex organ. How we need to bring passion into our bedroom [and lives let's be honest] by working with our senses. Today's sense: sound. The beauty of words.

“It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it” ← sound familiar 🌹Keep this in mind for next time.

EXPERT INSIGHT

Dear Feeling Seen,

I’ve been with a few men, but never in my life had I gotten any type of STD, or infection after having sex. After being with my current boyfriend I felt very uncomfortable and noticed an odor, which is when I went, got tested, and the doctor told me I was positive for BV. I took the full course of oral antibiotics. The uncomfortable feeling went away but now I’m dealing with itching and soreness. Does that mean the antibiotics didn’t work? What can help make it go away? Help!!

Your Friend,

Wellness Explorer

Dear Wellness Explorer,

We’re happy to hear you got tested, and took your oral antibiotics. We can only imagine how you felt when you found out and how you’re feeling with the itching still haunting you.

35% of vulva owners will contract BV at least once in their life so kudos to you for being so calm. BV = bacterial vaginosis for those in the back of the class playing on their phones.

Let’s clear up the confusion. Here’s the scientific [TLDR] brief, quick read below:

  • BV is not an STI

  • Ensure you get your partner tested

  • BV usually goes away on its own when treated by a doctor

  • Males can carry BV & pass it but penis holders can’t contract BV

  • Reconnecting with your doctor is your best way to put this to bed

  • Antibiotics can disrupt & destroy beneficial bacteria in the process

Check-in and let the doc check you out. Please! The itching can be the result of a variety of things.

Itching is a common sexual health symptom. To be frank, that s*!t is beyond aggravating! Another test will help the doc pinpoint the source of the problem.

Health tips: For your knowledge. STI tests are more accurate 14 days after sex while some STIs need a longer wait period. Professionals suggest waiting 28 days after sex before getting a HIV test. Play it safe.

  • Chlamydia: 14 days – urine or swab test

  • Gonorrhoea: 14 days – urine or swab test

  • HIV: 2-4 weeks – blood test

  • Syphilis: 14 days – blood test

  • Genital Herpes: 14 days – blood, urine or swab test

  • Hepatitis B: 28 days – blood test

  • Hepatitis C: 28 days – blood test

Check-in with your doctor (or another qualified clinician) anytime there are any medical issues. You can dodge long-term problems by getting a head start.

Curiosity leads to treasures. A peace of mind will put your body at ease.

We want you to be at ease and put comfort back in your life. We want you to feel good, feeling good in your skin.

Check out these alternatives to antibiotic solutions to improve BV:
