Welcome Back!

Last week we added a few subheadings and we’re curious:

#JFO Woman who wrote book on grief after husband's death accused of his murder. The 33yr old mom stepped out of wellness and went into unwellness.

It feels like a while since we spoke. You doing good?

I love spreading new knowledge. It's the thing that lights me up the most. Just talking to you about the things I'm learning without obligating you to do anything or try anything that doesn't feel right for you.

In fact, I reject the idea that knowledge itself is power. Power doesn't live in facts. It lives in you. When you can choose how you apply knowledge to your life (or whether you do), when no one is telling you that one thing or one way of being is better, that's how you find your own power.

On my IG I speak about Chakras and their importance, meaning, and immense value in my life. Focusing on my Chakras during meditation takes me from struggle to serenity, and I receive many follow-up questions about how I use this practice in everyday life.

I wanted to share a specific example from my life recently so you know exactly what I mean!

I recently visited Tulum, Mexico, with my girlfriend and some friends. (My girlfriend and I are now in Costa Rica!) These are people I care about and admire! (Con tequila!)

We stayed in a beautiful mansion with two pools, five bedrooms, and a sunken living room, Japandi (a mix of Japanese and Scandinavian) style! As beautiful as this place was, the best night of my trip (and maybe one of the best of my life!) happened in a makeshift street nightclub filled with potholes when the trip’s stress had peaked.

The lopsided curb was our dance floor, and passersby were the patrons.

We turned nothing into something.

We turned dull into spectacular.

We became the place to be.

We turned "What can we do now?" into "Now, we can."

We found the answer in ourselves.

Choice is our inherent superpower.

This simple example became a metaphor for the remainder of our trip, as one demanding problem turned into another and another.

Have you ever been on a trip where things weren't going right--just one difficult situation after another? And on top of everything else, you feel like you're not being heard, as if the solutions in your heart aren't being accepted. In some ways, it can feel as if your voice has been cut off from your intuition. You're just watching external problems be met with external solutions when you know that the answer has been inside you all along…

This feeling has come to me in many areas of my life. It's a feeling I often describe as suffocation or silencing. I know immediately that I am out of alignment with my own well-being, because being well means listening to yourself.

In this case, I had been to Tulum before, but not everyone in our group had.

Here’s the scoop:

We began to run into major issues with passports and getting home.

I have a knack for taking the lead in a group if things are going awry, especially when I have encountered a situation before and have the wisdom to draw from. I don't like just sitting back and watching something scary run its course. Instead, I want to change the flow and find a solution.

BUT, when faced with my two biggest stressors

  • Unexpected financial expenses

  • Disorganization

I tend to become a version of myself that inadvertently and unknowingly silences others. I don't act from a place of leadership but of defensiveness and control.

I step out of wellness and into unwellness.

This is true for most people when the fight-or-flight response is activated or triggered. In that state, I become the guy in the boardroom that says, "That sounds like a great idea, but I think I may have a better one" instead of allowing everyone to feel as seen and heard as they deserve.

It's a tricky balance to strike, one I haven't mastered yet, but work on every day.

Once we returned to the States and settled, I returned to my routine.

During my meditation the next day, I reflected deeply on my behavior in Mexico. I remembered the feeling that arose when everything was finally taken care of - a sense of relief and comfort. More importantly, I discovered that who I want to be (and who I know I can be) is a leader who can bring comfort during a crisis or challenge, not after it is over.

I wanted to enrich everyone on the trip, including myself. I wanted everyone to feel equal and respected and have a great time. Yet, the way I acted was utterly annoying at times. My friends know me well. They know my triggers. It's saltwater under the bridge, but I knew I had missed the mark.

So, I meditated using my navel Chakra. It's said to bring equanimity, serenity, peace, and comfort.

That's my real superpower: when I don’t just have the knowledge but actively use the knowledge for good. When I don’t enforce one way of doing or being, I share my wisdom, step back, and allow space for choice.

The kind of guy who makes a lopsided street corner into a dance floor, not a boardroom.

The kind of guy who looks for answers internally instead of fighting externally.

The kind of guy who will always show up in connection, allow everyone to be seen and heard, right their wrongs and continually push to be better, more aligned, more well, and more seen.
